The government had done nothing to save the Awa tribe until the Brazilian Minister of Justice received over 57’000 letters and emails pleading with the government to take action and raise awareness for the endangered tribe. The government can partially take responsibility for the downfall of the Awa because it took them over three decades to finally notice what was happening to the dwindling tribe. It is mentioned that the government is hardly present and rarely helps to support this tribe that is struggling. They say it was an ‘unprecedented victory’ (Survival, 2016).
